In 2015, Dan Mann crafted a board for Kelly Slater for the first time, drawing from years of observing Kelly's surfing and shaping expertise.
"I immediately envisioned the entire design, from the bottom contour to the tail template. It felt like the most instinctive design I've ever created, likely because of my deep familiarity with Kelly's surfing style and my shaping experience. Strangely, after sending Kelly the board in 2015, I didn't hear back from him about its performance, so I moved on to other projects. Then, out of the blue in 2017, I received a flurry of text messages about Kelly's exceptional performance at Trestles on my board. It took me by surprise. Apparently, a close friend of Kelly's from Florida had stumbled upon the board in Kelly's shed, where it had been sitting unused for two years. He decided to give it a try and was so impressed that he convinced Kelly to take it out.
